This particular shot was part of a shoot at Cockington Village Devon, I just saw this Dandelion Puff Ball on the side of the path and the sun just illuminated it beautifully. It just said take me please, setting up a tripod at a very short height over a path did bring some people asking what are you doing. But as I had made arrangements with the House Gardener and Manager before hand they said “please just send me the image”. They have it in their brochure.
To get it just right, think, look, plan the image before you start on the camera, what is the plant telling you, listen to the way the wind, rain or passers by are affecting the location the lighting and shadow, remember a weed is just a plant that people don’t like anymore. It has a reason to be there and also have the right to be photographed.
In hindsight, I now always look at and especially into the garden planted areas, pathways area before I even touch a camera, see what is and especially what other people don’t want to photograph.
